The F430 improves upon the 360 Modena's amazing peformance in every way. The all-new V8 engine does not share any components with the 360 Modena's engine. Despite a 20% increase in engine displacement, the engine weighs only 4 kg more than the 360 Modena's engine. Torque increases by 25% (343 lb-ft at 5,250 rpm,) and power by 23% (490 hp at 8,500 rpm). There are new 4-valve cylinder heads, with inlet tracks and valve dimensions derived directly from F1 engines. Ferrari's famous six speed gearbox has been further revised allowing gear changes to be made in an astounding 150 milliseconds. Perfecting the F430's aerodynamics has brought a 50% increase in downforce compared to the 360 Modena. At 200 km/h, that figure equates to 45 kg more downforce, making the F430 more stable and predictable when driven at the limit. The F430's cockpit is
noticeably bigger with increased passenger comfort thanks to a slimmer central tunnel. There is plenty of space behind the seats, with a new electrically operated compartment for storage, and a cargo net to the rear fire wall. The standard electric seats have also been redesigned for greater lateral support and comfort. All these revisions have improved the F430's peformance figures significantly over the 360 Modena's. Top speed reaches 196 mph, while 0-62 mph arrives in just 4.0 seconds! |
