The F430 Spider is the only mid-rear engined convertible to boast a compact, fully automatic electric top that allows the engine to be seen at all times. The rear window is made of exceptionally flexible polycarbonate which folds away easily, and can be easily replaced. The new F430 Spider's wind deflector has been improved and is now much more effective than the 360 Spider's. Opening or closing the top takes just 20 seconds from start to finish. The F430 Spider improves upon the 360 Spider's amazing peformance in every way. The all-new V8 engine does not share any components with the 360 Spider's engine. Despite a 20% increase in engine displacement, the engine weighs only 4 kg more than the 360 Spider's engine. Torque increases by 25% (343 lb-ft at 5,250 rpm,) and power by 23% (490 hp at 8,500
rpm). There are new 4-valve cylinder heads, with inlet tracks and valve dimensions derived directly from F1 engines. Ferrari's famous six speed gearbox has been further revised allowing gear changes to be made in an astounding 150 milliseconds. The F430 Spider's cockpit is noticeably bigger with increased passenger comfort thanks to a slimmer central tunnel. The standard electric seats have also been redesigned for greater lateral support and comfort. All these revisions have improved the F430 Spider's peformance figures significantly over the 360 Spider's. Top speed reaches 196 mph, while 0-62 mph arrives in just 4.0 seconds! |
